Schweikert, AFP-AZ Team Up for National Day of Action to Make Tax Cuts Permanent

Representative David Schweikert (R-AZ) and Americans for Prosperity's Arizona chapter (AFP-AZ) are teaming up this Saturday, May 17th, to rally support for making President Donald Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent.

As Fox News described, AFP members nationwide will go door-to-door talking to voters about the benefits of making the tax permanent as Republicans in Congress work on the so-called "big beautiful bill" for Trump to sign.

In cooperation with the LIBRE Initiative, the Arizona chapter of AFP will focus on Phoenix, where Rep. Schweikert will give a short address before activists set out.

AFP first announced the nationwide event in January, raising $20 million.

As Arizona chapter director Stephen Shadegg said, "This year, Congress is facing a countdown to a crisis that threatens family budgets nationwide."

"If Congress fails to renew the TCJA, Arizonans will be left paying over $2,700 more in taxes," Shadegg continued, adding, "Along with increasing the burden of inflation on working families, the expiration of these tax cuts would cripple local businesses with a $1,000 tax increase and ultimately cost Arizona over 17,000 jobs."

Rep. Schweikert has strongly supported TCJA, giving Democrats an earful for their opposition on the House floor in March.

"My brothers and sisters on the left often want to attack the tax reform of 2017 [and] attack tax receipts," the Arizona Congressman said, adding that he gave "presentation after presentation by this microphone, using the stuff from the Manhattan Institute" explaining why their insistence on raising taxes and increasing spending is not economically viable, giving detailed explanations of how raising taxes on the nation's top earners does not bring in enough money and raising the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax doubles senior poverty.

"What happens when there is this intense hunger to play this weird blame game instead of being willing to tell our voters the truth?" Schweikert concluded.
