Iran and US to Host Nuclear Negotiations in Coming Days

Despite escalating tensions, Iran and the US will soon meet to discuss the former’s nuclear weapons development.

President Donald Trump recently announced his administration will lead negotiations with Iran to halt their development of nuclear weapons.

While President Trump claimed the US is already in “direct talks” with Iran, he added that the two countries will officially meet on Saturday for a “very big meeting.”

Trump has repeatedly warned that Iran should acquiesce to the US or they will suffer economic and military retaliation.

"I think everybody agrees that doing a deal would be preferable to doing the obvious," continued Trump.

Recently, Trump went as far as threatening Iran with “bombing” if their nuclear development programs continue.

Such bombing could be imminent, as the US military is reinforcing its firepower in the Middle East by relocating more Naval strike groups to the area.

Iran, however, seemed undeterred. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran would respond to any forceful US action in kind.

Notwithstanding Iran’s public rejection of the US' statements, the sudden negotiations between the two countries suggest the Trump administration’s pressure may have compelled Iran’s government to seek negotiations.

Trump’s statements reflect his administration’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign to nix Iran’s nefarious conduct, which the US believes threatens international security.

Since taking office, Trump has imposed sundry sanctions on Iran and its proxies as well as applied financial and diplomatic pressure by threatening more action if Iran does not agree to ceasing its nuclear weapons development program and supporting international terrorism.

Iran Watch, an organization devoted to exposing Iran’s weapons development programs, recently reported Iran is dangerously close to obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran Watch claimed Iran has “accomplished over 90% of the work needed to bring natural uranium to weapon-grade.”
