Representative Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) recently discussed America's military presence worldwide on The Jeff Oravits Show, saying the United States has been made to "clean up the mess" in the Middle East when it would be better suited at home, ideally defending the border.
X (formerly Twitter) account Abe Hamadeh War Room posted the clip, in which Oravits noted Rep. Hamadeh's previous military service as a Captain in the Army and asked if President Donald Trump intended to pull out troops from parts of the world and keep them closer to home in the Western Hemisphere.
Rep. Hamadeh agreed, saying, "Too often, our military has been used to fight foreign wars. That is the problem."
"But when we have our allies like Israel needing our help, it is important there to maintain a presence there as a deterrent," the Arizona Congressman clarified.
Nevertheless, Hamadeh agreed with Oravits's sentiment, noting that the Houthis were already attacking American troops before October 7th, 2023, when they became known to the wider world for their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
More egregiously, he described how President Biden stopped supporting the Saudis' efforts to contain the Houthis in 2021.
"And now look at what we have to do. We have to go in and clean up the mess, but instead, we should let the Saudis deal with their own backyard," the Arizona Congressman continued.
While he implied letting the Saudis handle the problem would be ideal, "Unfortunately, what is going on is, the United States has to step in because the Houthis have been disrupting global trade."
Still, Hamadeh agreed that "putting 10,000 troops on our border is the best use of our military."
"I'm proud to serve on the House Armed Services Committee and the Veteran Affairs Committee; it's something that I take near and dear to me because we've got to make sure that we're using our military in the United States' strategic interests," Hamadeh concluded.
