Gosar's TSA Screening for Veterans Bill Signed into Law

Representative Paul Gosar's (R-AZ) Veterans Expedited TSA Screening (VETS) Safe Travel Act has been signed into law by President Biden, which he celebrated on X (formerly Twitter).

Rep. Gosar introduced the bill in February, which would allow disabled veterans to enter the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck system free of charge, provided they complete the application, background check, and interview screening.

The free PreCheck is already available to Active Duty, Reservists, and National Guard servicemembers, and with Rep. Gosar's bill now becoming law, up to 400,000 disabled veterans are estimated to benefit.

The Arizona Congressman called his VETS Safe Travel Act "common sense," as those who were wounded serving their country deserve "an easier and more dignified experience when passing through domestic airport security checkpoints."

"It is my hope that this bipartisan legislation can eliminate many of the challenges disabled veterans face when traveling. No American veteran, particularly disabled veterans, should be hassled at our airports," Gosar added in his original statement introducing the bill.

Representative Brian Mast (R-FL), the bill's primary cosponsor, stated, "Many men and women return home from war with new physical challenges, and as I've experienced firsthand, our airports are often not well designed to accommodate these changes. This bill will make traveling a little easier for those who've risked life and lost limb for our nation."

Multiple veterans' organizations, such as Unified Arizona Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion, supported the bill's passage.

In December, the VETS Safe Travel Act passed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate less than two weeks apart, proving Gosar's point about its bipartisan appeal.

On X, he posted, "Very pleased that my bill, HR 7365 - the VETS Safe Travel Act, has been signed by Mr. Biden and is now the law of the land and will provide TSA's PreCheck program to severely injured or disabled veterans free of charge."
