Biggs Reintroduces Slate of Bills to Drastically Shrink Federal Government

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is reintroducing a slate of bills to drastically shrink the federal government and bolster the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) agenda.

One of the bills Rep. Biggs is reintroducing is the Keeping Aid for Municipalities and Localities Accountable (KAMALA) Act, which denies federal funds to state-level initiatives designed to give illegal aliens housing assistance, which he originally introduced in September.

A second is the Secret Service Prioritization Act, which Rep. Biggs introduced early in December. This act transfers the Secret Service's financial crime investigation duties to the FBI, freeing Secret Service agents to focus solely on protecting the President and other officials.

Third is a proposal to add a new amendment to the Constitution requiring a balanced budget, also introduced by Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL).

Next is a bill reinstating telework policies enacted before the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring the resurgence of in-person work for many federal employees.

Another piece of legislation, the Small Business Prosperity Act, expands the deduction for qualified business income.

A sixth bill would defund the National Endowment for the Humanities, initially created in 1965. Even in 1997, conservatives were arguing for its defunding and abolishment, as an article from The Heritage Foundation at the time claimed the Endowment violated the principles of limited government and did little to promote the advancement of art, instead decrying it as a "welfare system" and "elitist."

Seventh, there is an intriguing call to temporarily withhold members of Congress's salaries if there is no budget resolution for 2026.

Finally, the most ambitious of Rep. Biggs's bills is the Nullify Occupational Safety and Health Administration (NOSHA) Act, which would abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

In his press release, the Arizona Congressman said, "The federal government has expanded far beyond what our founders intended. President Trump, Elon Musk, and congressional Republicans must be dedicated to shrinking the size of the government and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are utilized as efficiently as possible. America voted for major government reform, and Congress must be ready to deliver President Trump's agenda."
