The New York Times recently suggested that Democrats have privately expressed concern over the convictions of former President Donald Trump in New York by Attorney General Letitia James and prosecutor Alvin Bragg, fearing they would legitimize cases brought forth by a Trump DOJ against them. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) recently discussed the fear on Fox Business's Evening Edit, saying, "They are concerned that maybe the law will be applied to them."
The article from the Times is a transcript of an interview between Ezra Klein and Maggie Haberman. Part of the conversation involved Trump using the term "enemy within" and exacting payback on them.
"Some of what he is saying about some of these cases are statements that privately I've heard Democrats make as well, at least in the cases in New York. There are a lot of Democrats who were uncomfortable with the [New York] attorney general's civil suit into his business or uncomfortable with the prosecution over the Stormy Daniels case, for which he was convicted," said Haberman, adding, "The other indictments, much less so. He just paints them all with the same brush, as 'I'm being persecuted,' and then he takes it a step further, which is 'The enemy within is going after me,' and he will maximize what people will tolerate and stand for. But I think people should absolutely take him at his word on this."
Host Elizabeth MacDonald noted that the media is only reporting on this a week before the election, which Rep. Biggs agreed was "astounding to me that they are a little bit late."
"But what they are more concerned about," Rep. Biggs continued, "they are not concerned about the injustice done to President Trump. They are concerned that maybe they will be treated the same way, that maybe the law will be applied to them."
In June, the Arizona Congressman decried the Trump conviction brought forth by Bragg in an op-ed for the Daily Caller, claiming it was politically motivated, which many Republicans have accused the various legal cases against the former President of being.
"The media is corrupt. The judge is corrupt. The prosecutor is corrupt. Deranged Members of Congress want to expose him to radical Trump-haters. And the left wants to destroy Trump, his family, and his supporters. Congress must use the purse strings to bring this out-of-control weaponized government under control ASAP," said Biggs.
