Biggs, Roy Fight Disposal of Partial-Birth Abortion Victims' Remains

The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently ordered the Washington D.C. Medical Examiner to dispose of the remains of five possible victims of partial-birth abortions. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) wrote to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith, urging them to preserve the bodies and pursue an investigation into their deaths.

"Every life—born and unborn—is precious and deserves respect, even after life ends. In this case, medical experts alleged two years ago that these children showed signs of being victims of partial-birth abortions, yet no independent examination outside the D.C. Medical Examiner’s office was conducted," Rep. Biggs wrote, reminding Mayor Bowser and Chief Smith that in 2007, the Supreme Court ruled the 2003 Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act valid, making the procedure a federal crime.

As a result, Rep. Biggs added, "A violation of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act is a serious accusation and one that should not be taken lightly."

"Serious questions remain about the circumstances of these children’s deaths. This situation demands congressional oversight, and you have already received requests from Congress to preserve evidence in this case. If partial-birth abortions were conducted on these unborn children, that is a violation of federal law and should be investigated as such. However, if the evidence in this case is destroyed, any future investigation will be severely hampered," Biggs concluded.

In his press release, Biggs stated the importance of conducting a proper investigation, calling the planned disposal "malpractice" and "Americans deserve to know what happened to these five innocent children, and the rogue actors involved must be brought to justice."

Similarly, Rep. Roy said, "It’s been almost two years, and the five unborn children who appeared to be aborted illegally in our nation’s capital have still not received justice. These are human beings — fellow Americans — and this testimony indicates that Joe Biden's Department of Justice is trying to sweep the horrifying reality of the case, and of abortion in general, under the rug."

In March 2023, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) conducted a hearing about the incident, where in March 2022, five viable babies were recovered from the Washington Surgi-Clinic by a pro-life group.

The five children were supposedly aborted by Dr. Cesare Santangelo, who had previously been accused of flouncing laws designed to protect babies born alive during abortion procedures.

"One of the most egregious crimes occurred in D.C. with absolutely no hearing and no oversight," as Rep. Luna described it, displaying photos of the babies' remains.
