Phoenix VA fails...... AGAIN

The Phoenix VA has been drowning in scandal after scandal, and things are about to get a little worse. Turn out the Phoenix VA is not a great place to work according to its own employees. The 2016 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey Report illustrates some alarming numbers, putting the Phoenix VA Healthcare system under further scrutiny.

The most disturbing number fromthe survey comes from question 54. When asked if the "Organization's senior leaders maintain high standards of integrity and honesty" 39% of responders answered in the negative.

The highest negative in the survey is also alarming. When asked if propper steps are taken by senior leadership to deal with "poor performers" 53.6% answered negatively. Meaning a majority of the Phoenix VA employees think poor performers are not dealt with.

Other notable NEGATIVE numbers from the survey include:

  • 52.0% - I have sufficient resources (for example, people, materials, budget) to get my job done. (Q.9)
  • 44.6% - Pay raises depend on how well employees perform their jobs. (Q.33)
  • 42.3% - In my organization, senior leaders generate high levels of motivation and commitment in the workforce. (Q.53)
  • 40.1% - Creativity and innovation are rewarded. (Q.32)
  • 40.1% - How satisfied are you with the information you receive from management on what's going on in your organization? (Q.64)
  • 39.9% - In my work unit, differences in performance are recognized in a meaningful way. (Q.24)
  • 39.2% - I believe the results of this survey will be used to make my agency a better place to work. (Q.41)
  • 39.1% - Employees have a feeling of personal empowerment with respect to work processes. (Q.30)

The Phoenix VA will continue to be under heavy scrutiny from the Arizona Congrassional Delegation in the 115th Congress. President-Elect Donald Trump has promised several VA reforms, and with what is expected to be a very hard fought primary and general election campaign for Jeff Flake's Senate seat, we can expect to hear more horror stories from inside the Carl T. Hayden V.A. Medical Center.
