How Arizona's Republicans May Shape the Trump Administration

It always happens after a new president is elected. Everyone who was involved in the campaign begins jockeying for a job. Many of Arizona’s top Republicans were deeply involved in the campaign and there are rumors already circulating about who may take jobs in a Trump administration.

Top of the list is Arizona governor Doug Ducey, who was being rumored for a cabinet position. The governor put a halt to those rumor quickly, ruling out the possibility of him leaving his post to take a job in Washington.

Two of Trump's most ardent supporters during the campaign were former governor Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Fresh of his loss to Paul Penzone, Arpaio could be considered for Secretary of Homeland Security, though the federal charges he currently faces make those prospects unlikely. For her part, Jan Brewer is reportedly being considered for Interior Secretary, an appointment which would surely please the Cliven Bundy wing of the GOP, though se faces opposition from John McCain's former VP nominee Sarah Palin.

Former Arizona Senator John Kyl has reportedly taken himself out of the running for Secretary of Defense.

Lastly, and most importantly is Arizona State Treasurer Jeff DeWit. DeWit served as the Trump campaign's COO, and is surely being considered for a number of jobs. Though a cabinet position seems unlikely, an undersecretary role, perhaps at the Treasury Department shouldn't be ruled out.

Another possible way Arizona may heavily influence the Trump administration is by electing Robert Graham for the RNC national chairmanship. Graham faces a tough race against the likes of Carly Fiorina and David Bossie, but the RNC is notorious for passing up big names in the past.
