In what can only be described as another defeat for the Obama Administration, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is dropping its Affordable Healthcare law coverage. First it was health insurance heavyweights Aetna who decided to pull out of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, now Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is dumping 44,000 of its members from its Obamacare rolls.
As of January 1, 2917, BCBS of Arizona will pull its Obamacare healthcare coverage in both Pinal and Maricopa counties next year, leaving thousands of Arizonans to scurry around for alternative healthcare coverage.
Biz journals reports that the healthcare giant is said to have “lost $185 million on individual ACA plans in just two years.”
Both of Arizona’s US Senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, have been staunch opponents of the Obamacare law, with McCain going as far as to penning legislation earlier this year to repeal and replace the law.
“Bill gives incentives for purchasing insurance though doesn’t mandate it, allows purchase of insurance across state lines, makes coverage more portable and ensures no one is priced out of market, according to statement describing legislation.”-Bloomberg
McCain tweeted another Obamacare complication:
