Representatives Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) took to social media to demand that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) take stronger action to pass the SAVE America Act so it can be signed into law.
On Thursday, Sen. Thune posted, "Next week, I will bring the SAVE America Act to the floor. Senate Democrats will be forced to defend their outrageous positions on these issues and explain to the American people why common sense and the Democrat Party have parted ways."
Republicans in the House have been pushing for action in getting the SAVE America Act through the Senate, having fought bitterly with Democrats to get it passed in the House.
However, Sen. Thune has stated that getting it passed in the Senate is unlikely, as the required number of votes currently does not exist, even for a talking filibuster. Moreover, he suggested that nuking the filibuster altogether would be weaponized by Democrats should they regain the majority, and their amendments to the bill would neuter its effects.
Nevertheless, House Republicans, and especially President Donald Trump, are demanding the SAVE America Act be passed at any cost, with Trump saying he will refuse to sign anything else into law until the bill crosses the Resolute Desk. Otherwise, the GOP is going to take a serious beating and lose its majority in both chambers of Congress in the midterms.
Rep. Hamadeh addressed Thune and Democrats on social media, writing, "Americans don’t need another demonstration that Democrats don’t care about election integrity. We KNOW that already. They need the security measures in the SAVE America Act."
