Marking the anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, Governor Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) received a major endorsement from Reproductive Freedom for All, a national organization dedicated to protecting abortion access across the country.
"I am proud to earn the endorsement of Reproductive Freedom for All, an organization working every day to ensure that decisions about birth control, abortion, and starting a family remain with individuals—not out-of-touch politicians," Gov. Hobbs said.
"From day one, I've fought to protect reproductive freedom by repealing Arizona's 1864 total abortion ban, removing barriers to over-the-counter contraception, and helping enshrine the freedom to choose in our state constitution," she continued.
Since taking office, Hobbs has consistently worked to expand reproductive rights in Arizona. When the state Supreme Court brought back a nearly complete abortion ban from 1864, she pushed for its elimination and signed the repeal legislation in May 2024.
She believes healthcare decisions belong to patients and doctors, not government officials.
Governors Stance
The governor has used executive actions to protect abortion access, preventing other states from prosecuting Arizona residents who seek care and limiting local prosecutors from pursuing abortion-related cases.
Additionally, she has blocked extreme anti-abortion bills from the Republican-controlled legislature and encouraged voters to support Proposition 139, which they approved.
Arizona voters approved Proposition 139 in 2024, adding abortion as a fundamental right to the state constitution. The amendment permits abortion before fetal viability and later when necessary to protect the mother's life or health.
In March 2025, a Maricopa County judge permanently blocked the state's 15-week abortion ban from 2022, expanding access to care.
However, several older restrictions remain, including mandatory 24-hour waiting periods, ultrasound requirements, and parental consent for minors. Only physicians can perform abortions, and medication abortion cannot be provided by mail.
Reproductive Freedom for All, with over 4 million members nationwide, praised Hobbs' record on reproductive rights.
Andy Biggs (R-AZ), David Schweikert (R-AZ), and Karrin Taylor Robson (R-AZ), all oppose abortion rights, contrasting sharply reports of 9 in 10 Arizonans support legal abortion access.
“I will always defend Arizonans' freedom to make their own healthcare decisions,” Gov. Hobbs concluded.
