Raul Grijalva Fed Building Bill

Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Ruben Gallego's (D-AZ) bill to rename the Tucson federal office after the late Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) has cleared the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

The federal building in Tucson houses offices for the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of Labor, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Sens. Kelly and Gallego were joined by Representatives Greg Stanton (D-AZ) and Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) in sponsoring the bill.

Senator Mark Kelly: Government is shut down, health care prices are increasing, and Trump is cutting off food stamps. I agree with @SenJackyRosen: This isn't the time for Republicans to be sending the Senators home for the weekend.

Senator Ruben Gallego: Trump's sitting on $5 billion that could feed families right now. Instead, he's pretending his hands are tied while Republican leadership blocks bills to fund SNAP. They are using hunger as leverage. It's disgusting.

Representative Andy Biggs: Thankful to see that a few Senate Democrats still have common sense. @SenRubenGallego, @SenMarkKelly —It's time for you both to defy King Schumer and put your constituents over political games.

Representative Eli Crane: If you haven't already, you are going to see a flood of performative posts from shameless House Democrats about SNAP. On September 19, the House passed a bill to fund the program and keep the government OPEN. Every single House Democrat, with one exception, voted NO. Just FYI.

Representative Abe Hamadeh: Thirty days on & the Schumer Democrats still haven't landed on a coherent excuse for why they shut down the government. There is NO excuse, because they weren't sent to DC to capitulate to illegal immigrants & their radical base; they were sent to serve hardworking Americans. It's time they get their priorities in order & join House Republicans in putting America First.

Representative Greg Stanton: Six weeks. Zero votes. Speaker Johnson has kept the House dark — no budgets, no markups, no debates, nothing. Stop letting the Senate and the White House decide policy by themselves — reconvene the House and let us do our jobs.

Representative Yassamin Ansari: Alejandro Juárez lived in the United States for decades and worked at one of Trump's golf courses. He has a wife and kids here. ICE “accidentally” deported him to Mexico earlier this year. Trump’s authoritarian regime is out of control—we’re not going to stop fighting back.
