Eli Crane Introduces Bill Expediting the Rebuilding of Grand Canyon's North Rim

Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) is introducing legislation to expedite the federal contracting process for rebuilding the Grand Canyon's North Rim in the wake of the devastating Dragon Bravo Fire.

As Cactus Politics previously reported, the Dragon Bravo Fire broke out in July and cut a wide swathe through the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, with the historic Grand Canyon Lodge being its most notable casualty.

Similarly, with the area still partially closed, North Rim tourism businesses and National Park staff have faced numerous difficulties, as much of their infrastructure has been burned.

Thus, Rep. Crane's North Rim Restoration Act of 2025 gives the National Park Service emergency contracting authority for forest management, maintenance, rebuilding, and infrastructure improvements, thereby bypassing federal red tape and speeding up recovery work.

To ensure accountability, the Service must issue full-scope reports every 180 days.

"While the Dragon Bravo Fire dealt a setback for Northern Arizona, we won't let this tragedy define our future," Rep. Crane said in a statement. "We have an opportunity to rebuild stronger and better than before, and we can't let unnecessary regulations get in the way."

"This legislation paves the way for an efficient recovery, and I'm grateful for the bipartisan support on this approach," the Arizona Congressman continued. "I also want to thank our heroic firefighters and first responders who brought the fire to full containment, as well as the local leaders in Coconino County who are committed to restoring this treasured place."

The bill has received the backing of the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, who issued a statement saying that Cococino County backs the effort because it "gives the National Park Service the ability to respond swiftly and thoughtfully, not only to rebuild the physical structures, but to restore the enduring spirit of the Grand Canyon's North Rim."

"We are deeply grateful to Representative Crane for championing this legislation and recognizing the devastation caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire and the heartbreaking loss for everyone who treasures this extraordinary place," the Board concluded.
