All 20 remaining living hostages held by Hamas were released and reunited with their families this week as part of a ceasefire agreement. Israel also released more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners. The releases marked the beginning of a pause in fighting that has lasted over two years.

Congressman Juan Ciscomani celebrated the release on social media, commenting that "after two long years, all hostages held by Hamas terrorists on October 7 are being reunited with their families. This is a historic milestone, led by President Trump, for Israel and the Middle East.”

Cactus Politics reported on the 2nd anniversary of October 7, 2023, where the attack was carried out on southern Israel involving rocket fire and armed individuals crossing into Israeli territory. This resulted in casualties and the abduction of 251 people.

Following the attack, Israel responded with military operations in the area. The conflict expanded to involve other actors in the Middle East, including Iran and groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon. In June, the United States participated in a 12-day military operation in the region.

“As Israel celebrates this significant moment, we must ensure the remains of those murdered be returned home. And may we never forget that tragic day,” Ciscomani continued.

Representative Greg Stanton called the release "an incredible moment to witness." He highlighted the severity of the previous years, expressing that “after two excruciating years, families are finally being reunited. A long healing process now commences. Our prayers are especially with families who will receive only the remains of their loved ones murdered by Hamas."

"We have built industries together, we have made discoveries together, we have confronted evil... and perhaps most beautifully of all, we have made PEACE together. And this week, against all odds, we have done the IMPOSSIBLE, and brought our hostages home," President Trump emphasized in a statement.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is now in effect and represents a significant shift after over two years of conflict in the region.

"After two harrowing years in darkness & captivity, 20 courageous hostages are returning to the glorious embrace of their families... Today, the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at PEACE,” President Donald Trump concluded.
