Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) highlighted a recent demand from a government employee union calling for Senate Democrats to pass the "clean" continuing resolution (CR) in a post to X.
NBC News cited a statement from Everett Kelly, President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest union representing federal government workers with 820,000 members. Kelly affirmed that "it's time for our leaders to start focusing on how to solve problems for the American people." "Because when the folks who serve this country are standing in line for food banks after missing a second paycheck because of this shutdown, they aren't looking for partisan spin."
Kelly further emphasized that "both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight." Thus, "it's time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship."
On X, Rep. Biggs echoed the sentiment, providing an "update on the Schumer Shutdown."
"It's simple: Democrats need to put Americans first and reopen the government," Rep. Biggs concluded.
His remarks come shortly after Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) similarly implored Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) to break ranks with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and vote in favor of the CR.
"Three brave democrats have defied Chuck Schumer and voted to reopen the federal government. Only five more senate democrats are needed to end this harmful shutdown. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego have a chance to be two of them. Country over party, right?" Rep. Crane posted.
Earlier in October, Biggs expressed that "the Democrats have played a game of chicken here because they would rather fund illegal aliens' healthcare than actually get the government right-sized, and so I think that you are going to see some people lose their jobs."
