Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) demanded "accountability" for climate agenda proponents after billionaire Bill Gates recently seemed to make an about-face on the issue.
In a recent blog post, the Microsoft founder wrote, "although climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity's demise."
Critics argue that such a statement is a shift in climate rhetoric.
"Unfortunately, the doomsday outlook is causing much of the climate community to focus too much on near-term emissions goals," Gates continued, writing that "it's diverting resources from the most effective things we should be doing to improve life in a warming world."
As a result, Gates posits that "for the vast majority of [poor people] it will not be the only or even the biggest threat to their lives and welfare. The biggest problems are poverty and disease, just as they always have been. Understanding this will let us focus our limited resources on interventions that will have the greatest impact for the most vulnerable people."
In a social media post, Rep. Biggs responded to Newsmax's coverage of Gates' comments, writing that "the @GOP has known this for years. "Global warming" was nothing more than another left-wing hoax to manipulate the masses and push their dangerous and radical agenda. Everyone who peddled this lie should be held accountable for the mass hysteria they've caused."
Earlier in October, Rep. Biggs denounced a plan by the United Nations (UN) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) that would require ships transporting goods to be charged for fuel emissions above a set standard.
"This proposal is an outrageous attempt by unelected elites to impose economic burdens on sovereign nations under the guise of climate policy," the Arizona Congressman said.
