33,000 Pages of Epstein Records Released as Congress Seeks More Testimony

A congressional committee has issued subpoenas requiring testimony from several former government officials as part of an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein-related matters.

The House Oversight Committee ordered depositions from nine former officials. The list includes former President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary Clinton, along with former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller. The committee also subpoenaed former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales.

The Justice Department provided over 33,000 pages of Epstein-related documents to the committee on Tuesday. These records came after the committee chairman requested them through a subpoena issued in August.

Officials said the department will continue providing additional documents while making appropriate edits for privacy regarding the victims. 

Bipartisan Support

Both parties in Congress supported parts of this investigation. In July, Republicans and Democrats on a subcommittee agreed to request testimony from the former officials.

They also voted 8-2 to demand Justice Department records about the Epstein case. The committee added rules about what information must be protected, such as victim names and personal details that must be removed. Any inappropriate material involving children must be blocked out. The request also covers communications between current government officials and the Justice Department about Jeffrey Epstein.

Future of the Files

Justice Department officials told the committee they will begin providing Epstein-related records this Friday. They noted that reviewing and properly redacting all documents will take time due to the significant amount of materials they are handling.

The investigation continues as lawmakers from both parties are determined to uncover more information about how federal committees handled the Epstein case. Committee members expect that the full release of these documents will help address ongoing questions and concerns surrounding the case.
