Kelly, Scott Introduce Bipartisan Bill Letting Canadian Tourists Stay in US Longer

Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Rick Scott (R-FL) are introducing a bipartisan bill that extends tourist visas for Canadian citizens, incentivizing tourism and contributing to local economies.

Named the Canadian Snowbirds Act, it extends visas for Canadians from 182 days to 240. Still, it retains current provisions, such as tax treatment, prohibition on public assistance or employment, and Canadian retirees must continue to maintain their residence in Canada. American properties must be owned or leased while the individual is in the country.

"Canadians have long been an important part of Arizona's economy by owning or leasing homes, supporting local businesses, and spending their winters in our communities," said Sen. Kelly in his press release, adding, "Extending their stay isn't just good for families, it's good for Arizona's economy, especially in areas that rely on tourism. I'm proud to work across the aisle to make this happen."

Similarly, Sen. Scott said, "Florida has long been a second home for hundreds of thousands of snowbirds from our northern neighbor who flock to the Sunshine state to enjoy the great weather, beautiful beaches, and all that we have to offer as a destination for those enjoying their golden years."

"These annual visitors fuel billions of dollars into our economy and support so many jobs for local families in the tourism industry," Sen. Scott continued, adding, "The Canadian Snowbirds Act will allow our beloved snowbirds an extended stay to drive more dollars into the state, support more jobs, and put even more money in Floridians' pockets thanks to President Trump's new No Tax on Tips policy. I look forward to passing this easy proposal that boosts tourism, supports local businesses, and ensures Florida remains a top destination for our northern neighbors."

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), the bill's third cosponsor, also stated, "Canadians who spend part of the year in Arizona aren't just visitors—they're neighbors who contribute to our local economies and communities."

"This commonsense, bipartisan bill strengthens the US-Canada relationship, boosts local economies, and protects our workforce and public benefits," Sen. Gallego concluded.
