Trump Coaxes Greenland Voters on Eve of Election

President Donald Trump is encouraging the people of Greenland to vote for candidates that will support annexing the island to the US in the upcoming general elections.

“As I made clear during my Joint Address to Congress, the United States strongly supports the people of Greenland’s right to determine their own future,” said President Trump.

Trump has persistently publicly advocated for Greenland’s annexation into the US, calling it a matter of national security.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 11, 2025 and, while US annexation is not on the table, representatives elected could push for an annexation referendum following the election.

Greenland is home to the US’ northernmost military base, Pituffik Space Base (pronounced bee-doo-FEEK), formerly known as Thule Air Base.

While Greenland is officially part of Denmark, the US has been its de facto military protector for decades.

“We will continue to KEEP YOU SAFE, as we have since World War II,” continued Trump.

Greenland also boasts the eight largest reserve of rare earth minerals in the world, alongside rich oil and gas deposits.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that Greenland has about 31.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent, including oil, gas, and natural gas liquids.

“We are ready to INVEST BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to create new jobs and MAKE YOU RICH — And, if you so choose, we welcome you to be a part of the Greatest Nation anywhere in the World, the United States of America,” concluded Trump.

Donald Trump Jr. visited Greenland last January, increasing speculation about the possibility for a referendum to allow Greenland’s population to vote on joining the US.

Greenland’s current leadership, however, is not keen on submitting to US authority anytime soon.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reportedly said that "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders" and that “we are not for sale.”
