Arizona Republicans Signal Support for SAVE Act in Continuing Resolution

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) plans to include the SAVE Act passed in July in a continuing resolution for government spending once Congress returns to session. Several Arizona Republicans, such as Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), signaled their support for the move on X (formerly Twitter).

Rep. Biggs simply posted, "Protect American elections. Pass the SAVE Act now!"

Rep. Gosar replied to a post by NBC's Jake Sherman, who said the bill was a "nonstarter" with Democrats, questioning why they would be opposed as "Voters [are] overwhelmingly concerned about the integrity of elections. [With] 13 million illegals pouring across border, this legislation is a crucial step [towards] ensuring elections [are] fair & that is why House Republicans must insist that funding bill include SAVE Act!"

Rep. Ciscomani reposted a video from June expressing his earlier support for the SAVE Act, adding new comments saying, "I supported the SAVE Act when the House passed it over the summer. This is common sense legislation to ensure that only eligible voters are able to register to vote in federal elections. As we return to Washington next week, I remain fully committed to supporting it again."

Florida's Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) discussed Speaker Johnson's plan during a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, suggesting the Democrat-controlled Senate could potentially shut down the government rather than commit to preventing illegal aliens from voting.

"So are they really going to shut down the government over allowing illegals to vote in our elections? I think that is what we are going to put before the Senate and let the Senate answer that question to the American people," said Rep. Waltz.

Additionally, Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake (R), who is running against Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) for the outgoing Senator Kyrsten Sinema's (I-AZ) seat, attacked Rep. Gallego as she said, "Unlike my radical opponent, Ruben Gallego, I believe ONLY American citizens should vote in our elections. That’s why I fully support @BasedMikeLee & @SpeakerJohnson’s decision to attach the SAVE Act to the September spending bill. Free & fair elections are worth fighting for."
