Crane Unleashes on Secretary Mayorkas, 'You're Doing a Horrible Job'

During a hearing with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas concerning the 2025 budget, Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) held nothing back in a torrent of criticism against him, saying Sec. Mayorkas was "doing a horrible job," violating his oath to defend the country, and saying his actions were precisely why the House leveled articles of impeachment.

Rep. Crane began by pointing out that House Democrats have continually mocked Republicans for their inability to agree on policy.

"But one thing we can agree on is that you [Sec. Mayorkas] are doing a horrible job, sir, and that you need to be impeached. That is pretty wild," said Rep. Crane, asking the Homeland Security Secretary if he swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and how many times Mayorkas did so.

Mayorkas said he could count five times and attempted to describe them. Instead, Rep. Crane asked if he was familiar with Article 4, Section 4, which guarantees the states' protection from invasion, even presenting a graph showing the immense number of migrants who have entered the country under Mayorkas' tenure.

"That looks like an invasion on a graph," Crane continued, "We have heard from the people who have sat here and testified in these chambers about their family members being raped and murdered by people that were not supposed to be here, that your administration allowed to be here, and they did not keep track of, did not deport, did not detain. Tell me, sir, how you have not allowed an invasion into this country?"

Mayorkas answered that he was "incredibly proud" to work in the Department of Homeland Security with agencies such as Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) every day. However, Crane countered that morale among them is low because of his policies, "it seems as if you are working for the other side of the aisle, it seems as if you are working for our enemies, and that is exactly what the American people see. That is exactly why they supported us impeaching you, and that is exactly why you had so many members of this conference that is often divided, come together to impeach you, sir."
