Lake Says She Would Rather be Senator than Trump VP

Kari Lake, who is running to replace Krysten Sinema (I-AZ) in the U.S. Senate, has long been rumored to be a candidate fo former President Donald Trump's vice president running mate. However, Lake recently stated she would rather aid Trump as a Senator in a recent appearance on Fox News's Jesse Watters Primetime, saying, "The majority runs right through Arizona."

"I see myself in the Senate and in helping America, and helping secure our border, and helping make Arizona a safer and better place to live," Lake explained further.

While she is currently campaigning for Trump in New Hampshire and wants him back in the White House, "I think that we need to make sure that not only do we take back the White House, but we got to have the majority in the Senate, and that majority runs right through Arizona."

After all, Lake pointed out that Trump would have difficulty enacting his agenda if the Senate does not cooperate, right after the "outrageous" ruling by the Supreme Court recently forbidding the state of Texas from enforcing border security by itself.

"[The decision] just proves we need a law to build the wall and secure the border. We need a law to finally stop people from pouring across our border and destroying our country, and that is what I am willing and able to do. And starting on day one, I am going to help President Trump do that," Lake concluded.

The discussion of who Trump might pick to serve as his running mate/Vice President has been going strong since March, and Lake is one of five women who has been considered a contender. Other contenders have included Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD), Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AK), Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who is currently running against Trump.

However, the idea of Haley as VP has been widely condemned by Trump's base, causing Trump to all but confirm he would not choose her during a New Hampshire campaign event.

Other potential picks have included Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH).
