Biggs, Johnson, other GOP Reps Visit Border, Demand Security

With the new year beginning, House Republicans are redoubling their efforts in getting the Senate and Biden Administration to secure the southern border. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) joined Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and dozens of other GOP lawmakers who traveled to Eagle Pass, Texas, to make their case.

Rep. Biggs posted a short video on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday morning, saying the record numbers of migrants illegally crossing the border is "consistent and persistent," adding that "It’s clear the Biden Administration won’t enforce our laws, so we must defund their priorities."

In the video, Rep. Biggs described witnessing a group of approximately thirty migrants near the Rio Grande "for about three hours." Texas law enforcement, recently authorized by Governor Greg Abbott (R) to detain migrants, prevented the group from entering.

"But this is persistent," Rep. Biggs continued, "It is consistent policy driven by this administration. We have got to take control of our border. We should not be funding the Biden Administration's prerogatives until they start taking care of making our border secure."

Over 300,000 encounters with migrants occurred in December alone, breaking the previous record set just the month before.

While the Biden Administration authorized the construction of several miles of border wall in October, many Republicans view the White House's efforts as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Recently, the Lukeville Port of Entry was closed down by the federal government, intended to slow down the number of migrants arriving. However, Lukeville is an important route for American commuters.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) condemned the closure, saying the Biden Administration made " clear that you have prioritized illegal aliens over U.S. citizens. In an effort to coddle, welcome, and process hordes of illegal aliens (as opposed to simply blocking their access and preventing them from walking into Arizona - as you are paid to do and as you swore to do) you have decided to roll out the welcome wagon for transparently fake 'asylum seekers' who are in fact simply seeking jobs and social welfare benefits in this country."
