Support up for recreational marijuana use in Arizona

Medicinal marijuana consumption is supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans, and now legalizing the recreational use is at an all-time high, at least it is in Arizona.

According to a recent OH Predictive Insights poll conducted in Arizona of likely 2020 general election voters, 50 percent of those polled support legalizing adult use of marijuana while 40 percent still do not.

“The results indicate that Arizonans are feeling more comfortable with Marijuana Legalization than before,” says Eileen Liao, senior data analyst at OH Predictive Insights, a Phoenix-based research firm, “However, it still faces resistance from the same demographic groups of Republicans, women, and older voters.”

Much like it is in Florida and other states, for a ballot initiative to succeed they must garner 60 percent support from voters on election day.

According to the poll, the level of support for the marijuana measure dropped 8 points in the state’s most populous county, Maricopa County.

That deficit was canceled out by an 8 to 9-point jump in rural Pima County.

“It is a long way until November 2020 but backers of the marijuana initiative should be concerned just 50 percent of voters approve of legalization,” said Mike Noble, chief of research at OH Predictive Insights.

It remains to be seen if the pro-Marijuana lobby will be able to spend enough cash to win over voters.
