DeSantis and Cruz Push Term Limits Constitutional Amendment

Shortly after being sworn into the 115th Congress today, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) introduced a constitutional amendment with Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) to limit the amount of years an individual could serve in the U.S. Congress.

The bill would limit U.S. Senators to two terms (12 years) and U.S. House of Representatives to three terms (6 years)

“Congressional Term Limits are the first step towards reforming Washington and draining the swamp…“Term limits for members of Congress will change the prevailing Beltway power structure, realign incentives for members of Congress and bring accountability to Washington, DC. I thank President-elect Donald Trump for his support for term limits and will work hard to restore the citizen-legislator ethos of our Founding Fathers.”-Rep. Ron DeSantis

“D.C. is broken…The American people resoundingly agreed on Election Day, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed to putting government back to work for the American people. It is well past time to put an end to the cronyism and deceit that has transformed Washington into a graveyard of good intentions… The time is now for Congress, with the overwhelming support of the American people, to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification. With control of a decisive majority of the states, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, we have a responsibility to answer the voters’ call-to-action. We must deliver.”- Sen. Ted Cruz

But while many Republican legislators have run for office on the term limits platform, and some have even proposed legislation to support the move, real congressional term limits have just been one big pipe dream.

Now that a pro-term limits president will be sworn into office later this month, term limits could be a real possibility.

Btw, happy belated congratulation to the DeSantis’ on little Madison’s birth.
