The Veterans Affairs Administration (VA) is a disaster when it comes to the healthcare for veterans. This is news to anyone, as the VA’s shortcomings have been well documented across the country.
No other place has the dark cloud of failed healthcare for veterans been cast over than at the Phoenix VA hospital, where dozens of deaths from lack of care have been reported.
So, if you’re an elected official in the state of Arizona, you better be on this issue like a tick is on your dog Fido.
There is no excuse for the blatant healthcare malpractice that has been going on throughout the VA system, that is why so many members of the US Congress has penned support to have the ailing and healthcare wing of the VA overhauled.
Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) is one of those elected officials who has put his legislative money where his mouth is, and has introduced the Clean Up the Department of Veterans Affairs Act that requires the department to “fire any employee who has a felony conviction or whose medical license has been suspended or revoked.”
No brainer there.
Flake’s bill also prohibits the”hiring or transferring any employees that meet those criteria. Felony convictions include, but are not limited to: rape, sexual assault, molestation, or any other sex crimes, theft, battery, kidnapping, sale of drugs, gun crimes, and bank robbery.”
“If Congress wants to see improvements at the VA, it needs to put an end to the carousel of criminals passing through its doors…It’s time to clean up the VA so we can focus on recruiting the best and brightest to care for our veterans.”-Sen. Jeff Flake
