In proof that it is never not an election cycle David Gowan just finished off a congressional run in which he was defeated in the GOP primary for the open seat in CD1 by Sheriff Paul Babeu. Gowan should be dealing with transitioning the AZ House speakership to incoming speaker JD Mesnard, yet his eyes are already set on the State Senate in 2018.
Gowan (R-LD14), who was term limited out of the AZ House has filed to run for the seat which will be left open when Gail Griffin (R-LD14) runs into the term limit issue herself in 2018.
AZCentral's Mary Jo Pitzl poked a little fun at the outgoing House Speaker:
An open question: Will the Senate's new security measures be enough to make him feel safe? Gowan and his team are in the final stages of overseeing the installation of metal detectors and a Kevlar-coated wall in the House — measures Senate personnel felt they did not need.
